long nights with longmorn

events are moving at a fast clip in malaysia.
isa arrests, public outrage, the opposition jousting and ousting the putrajaya patriachs and now a minister quits.
it is going to be a long night into malaysia day and there is only one way to spend it. drinking. not any old drink, mind you!
one that sets the mind clear, the body nimble, and the soul settled.
none better than the longmorn 16 year old that came fresh from the whiskies of the world outlet in heathrow airport, courtesy of a drinking buddy.
the honey-gold single malt with 48 percent alcohol by volume came in a smart bottle with leather lining and in an equally handsome box. the looks did not belie the dram inside.
it had a sweet malty nose with hints of honey and the first sip of the dram brought a crisp clean chocolatey taste that was smooth and silky and all the more enticing as the tumbler magically appeared to fill up on its own.
but it was strong even as the conversation had its twists and turns as the tale has been for malaysia in the past few months.
the finish was long and spicy for a speyside whisky that is truly one of the better ones i have imbibed in years.
if you ever get a bottle, keep some for me.
selamat hari malaysia!
