bilk the milk

finally got my grubby hands on a bottle of bilk from japan - the beer made from milk that made the headlines last month.
the initial taste test revealed a distinctly sour taste. so did the second taste test.
yes, it is like yoghurt without the creaminess and the milky look and feel. so no chance of getting a milk moustache at all.
as for the taste, i reckon the sourness was due to the bottle just arriving from japan and was not chilled in time for us to imbibe at leisure. also maybe because most of us had binged the entire four days spent in singapore.
anyway, bilk combines two parts of a low-malt beer with one part milk, which came from surplus in japan. a bottle costs 380 yen but i don't think we will see it very soon in kuala lumpur.
well, not in time for st patrick's day this weekend.
anyway, the brewery said since milk has a low boiling point, it controlled the temperature during the boiling process to prevent the milk from boiling over.
they then added beer yeast and hops into the brew and started the fermentation process where it looked and smelled like tea with milk - ahhh, a frothy cup of teh tarik more like it.
when fermentation finished and the brew had cooled down, it looked like normal beer.
and that is the story of bilk.
me? am more interested in the black brew this weekend.
