blonde, nice legs

blonde. nice legs! that was my first impression of the aberfeldy 12 years old single malt.
what one would normally reserve for those of the fairer sex could equally apply to this delightful single malt from the dewar's distillery.
while dewar's is more famous for its blended whisky such as the white label, the single malt range from aberfeldy - established 1898 - is limited to either the 12-year-old or the 21-year-old.
the opportunity to taste the aberfeldy single malt came about during a tasting for the flavours magazine january-february 2007 edition featuring single malts and other whiskies.
however, the magazine editors did not put that comment. what a pity!
the blonde whisky was decanted into a wine glass, and following the footsteps of the nose that knows, i swirled it to have a look at the legs streaming down the glass.
nice.
the bouquet was fragrant with citrus and honey notes and a tinge of smoke, a hint of oakiness, stimulating the desire to have a wee dram to wet the palate.
the 40 percent alcohol by volume single malt was light and fresh with lingering sweetness leading to a long malty and satisfying finish.
one of the more refreshing single malts i've tasted in a long time.
if anyone is interested, it is available at the kuala lumpur international airport duty-free shops.
