whisky wisdom

back from perth last weekend and spent the entire week with whisky and friends. what's new? the whiskies ranged from superb single malts to something only some friends can appreciate, vat 69.
no, am not a whisky snob but vat 69 is in my past considering that this blended scotch was first made in 1882. it's not bad, then again, it's not that good either. wonder if it is still the standard pour in hard rock cafe kuala lumpur?
anyway, brought along a bottle of glen garioch 12 years old national trust for a farewell of sorts for a couple moving on to the island-state south of the peninsula. they didn't make it to the party but others did, including a couple of bloggers bent on boozing. the usual crowd actually.
had bought the bottle last year from single malt sdn bhd during one of their whisky tasting sessions. funny, they called me up last week for a few more sessions. should be fun.
be that as it may, this 70cl bottle of glen garioch comes in a handsome purple tube that opens up to reveal a light gold single malt. easy on the eye and even easier on the throat as we found out during the course of the night.
at 43 percent alcohol by volume, the subtle single malt is mellow and slips in like velvet. we took it in brandy decanters to better appreciate the floral and honey notes in the bouquet.
and so between the six of us, we easily finished the bottle to the last honey drop. the escargots on the plate distracted some but most were focussed on the whisky and the wisdom that flowed when inebriation set in.
we went home satisfied.
