nipply in nepal

'twas my second time in kathmandu in as many months. and the first place i headed was fire and ice, a pizza parlour par excellence.
apparently, there are only two branches. one in kathmandu, one in kashmir.
makes you wonder about the owner and as i found out, her penchant for dangerous yet exotic locales for what is arguably amongst the best pizza in the world.
believe you me, have tasted some great pizzas in europe and one that comes to mind is simple pepperoni pizza in zagreb years ago.
but i digress.
would like to focus on this awesome pizza parlour in the thamel tourist district in kathmandu, just metres away from the narayanhity palace and opposite the gogo bar, a pleasant surprise in this himalayan nation.
there are varieties of pizza and the top ones are the rompipalle that features buffalo veal. there's a photo here of that.
delicious thin crust overflowing with cheese and meat and chilli. what more can one ask for. its a fair bit of pizza but the ingredients are fresh and you just want to finish them as soon as possible.
the chilly air can cool the pizza post-haste so a big big mouth and a fantastic appetite is necessary.
as it was rather nipply in nepal, fire and ice also offers two great soups, a hearty bowl of tomato soup - just heavenly, and minestrone with chunks of vegetable and a meal by itself.
across the road from fire and ice is the gogo bar. and hey this is a first, the first video to appear in this blog. enjoy!



the shows are not that raunchy but it packs the crowd thirsty for entertainment. the women prance around in bras and knickers, gyrating to the latest and evergreen bollywood tunes. there is sole male dancer who has more costume changes than drag queens elsewhere.
drinks are standard indian labels with the local khukuri rum the exception. have to admit that i had a pretty good time.
